Falls Cause most Hip Fractures

Elderly people are greatly affected by hip fractures and can end up with long-term mobility problems as well as poorer health and quality of life. A recent study, conducted by the University of Helsinki, Finland, concluded that falls or small accidents, rather than the common assumption of brittle bones due to osteoporosis, cause most fractures in bones. The study established that the effect osteoporosis drugs had on hip fractures, at best, was “marginal”.
