Get activeRather than dealing with patients’ obesity, MPs urge that clinicians should promote regular physical activity, instead. Physical activity has only been recognised as a method of tackling obesity rather than for its physical and mental health benefits, state MPs. In a report from the parliamentary Health Committee1, evidence showed that mortality could be far more greatly affected than weight loss, through increased physical activity. MPs are pressing for a change in behaviour towards diets and physical activity through intervention on a personal and broader scale and access to universally available weight management services. Such interventions include: workplace incentives, referral to lifestyle weight management schemes and pricing and availability of unhealthy foods.
