The condition most commonly affects the big toe and can from improper nail cutting, poor fitting footwear, or genetic predisposition. Common symptoms include redness, tenderness, a feeling of pressure or a throbbing sensation. In severe cases an infection can develop and lead to the pus and bleeding which may require antibiotics.
