More than just an ache

FibromyalgiaFibromyalgia is a complicated disease.  One of the diagnostic criteria is widespread pain throughout the body for more than 3 months.  Although it is not life threatening, it can be hard to diagnose due to the diversity of symptoms people experience.  Some of the symptoms include: sleep and memory problems, tiredness, depression, sensitivity to temperature, loud noises or bright lights and common pain and tenderness in the body such as headaches, sore throat and numbness.  Other conditions one may have in conjunction with fibromyalgia are irritable bowel syndrome, interstitial cystitis, restless leg syndrome as well as various chronic conditions, however their interconnection is currently unknown.  People do get better, but the process of diagnosis is difficult since the cause(s) of fibromyalgia are currently unknown.  Treatment includes various types of medication as well as alternative therapies such as tai chi, massage therapy, acupuncture and spa treatment, which may be helpful according to some data.  Should you have any queries regarding this condition, do consult your local GP for further information.
