Cognitive Communication DifficultiesCognitive Communication Difficulties

Cognitive difficulties can be caused by many factors, such as: strokes, brain trauma, tumours, disease, substance abuse, aging and birth defects. Types of cognitive difficulties include: speech and voice difficulties – fluency, articulation and voice disorders, and language difficulties – aphasia (disorder in which there is loss of language and speech skills due to brain trauma). Such disorders make it hard for individuals to understand what people say, speak/express their thoughts and ideas, talk, read and write clearly or swallow and eat. Consequently, this affects the way they engage in daily activities, such as communicating in a normal conversation to watching TV programmes. Depending on the severity of the disorder and whether there is an underlying cause (e.g. brain disease), various methods of therapy are available to help re-build cognitive function.

My Rehab Team’s speech pathologist offers treatments for cognitive communication difficulties.
